I went to an awards ceremony, and a wedding broke out.
So mark down another first for Susanica Tam Photography: a surprise wedding, and one that happened during a quasi-military event at that.
Crystal Chatham is a photographer out in Palm Springs for the Desert Sun and a longtime friend and colleague of mine. When she asked if I could come out to shoot her wedding, it was a multi-layered request. First of all, I couldn’t tell anyone I was there to shoot her wedding…..because her wedding was a surprise event. Secondly, I’d have to adhere to rules of the mess during her Civil Air Patrol (CAP) event. She cleverly took advantage of her promotion and awards dinner for CAP, where many of her friends and family and the people she spent the most of her time with were present, fed, and in their formal dress, and decided to spring her wedding on them. It was fun, and funny to see everyone’s reactions, and what more could you ask for–when in the rules of the night it declares that a “good time must be had by all.”
